McElligotts Celebrates 70 Years of Remedial Construction Expertise

Operating in the remedial construction and protective coatings industry for 70 years, McElligotts was originally established by brothers John and Jim McElligott in 1954. Their unique vision and insight set the company up as industry leaders, a position that we have maintained for seven decades. Today our new generation of leaders John and Rory have taken on the McElligotts tradition of continuously striving to be the best.

Over this period our Company has become one of the largest privately owned contractors in the Australian coating industry, fostering a policy of providing premium service, safety, and quality. A Portfolio of Critical Projects

McElligotts is engaged in many projects throughout the country. Here are just a few examples of their recent work:

• Our team are currently completing major defence projects in NT which require the internal and external of 15 large bulk aviation fuel storages to be lined and coated.
• We have recently completed the surface preparation and painting of the complex “A” frame refurbishment of the Batman Bridge in Tasmania.
• During Covid McElligotts completed the refurbishment and full lead paint removal of the West Gate Bridge in Melbourne and applying new paint to $55,000\text{m}^2$ of underside steel work over a 3-year period.
• We have recently completed light house refurbishment projects in SA and Vic for Australian Maritime Safety Authority.
• Currently we are undertaking works on several sites for Glencore in the Bowen Basin providing blast, paint and scaffolding services for maintenance and shutdowns.
• Last year we completed the refurbishment of steel penstocks, spiral casings and draft tubes at Kareeya Power Station and Wivenhoe Dam respectively.
• Past projects have included major project works at Gladstone Port and Hay Point.
• Over a significant time, we have been in operation we have ventured from the Snowy Hydro Scheme across to Kununarra Diversion Dam and down to Hydro Tasmania with whom we have a current long-term alliance.

McElligotts have key customers and ongoing alliances and agreements with Glencore, Stanwell Energy, Siemens Energy, CleanCo, UGL, Downer, Ampol, Air Services, Hydro Tasmania and carry prequalification’s with major government infrastructure road and rail authorities.

The Role of Scaffolding in Full-Service Delivery

Scaffolding is an integral part of our service offer and has mainly serviced our internal Blasting & Painting access requirements. As McElligotts have expanded and diversified across Queensland and northern Australia so has the demand for our scaffolding product.

McElligotts has made significant investment into our scaffold division with the purchase of 800 tonne and growing of our own galvanized scaffolding to better service our existing key customers. With this investment and our strong industry knowledge, McElligotts have the expertise to supply the complete package. We can service a major construction project or a shutdown.
