One of the areas in which McElligott’s excel is internal and external Penstock (or pipeline) refurbishment and examples of this work include the McKay Creek Power Station near Falls Creek (2005), Snowy Hydro Tumut 3 – pump and turbine water passage (2007), Murray 1 and 2, Jindabyne and Bourke Gorge (2001) and Snowy Hydro Murray 1 and 1-2 pipeline . Each job (and many other such projects) has its own complexity and challenges but the company thrives on such situations and has established an excellent record in this area over a long period of time.

The processes in each case involve rigorous standards for surface preparation and water passage (internal and external) repainting and required up to 15 years back to back warranty between the paint supplier and painting contractor.

Application also included, in appropriate cases, the use of state of the art robotic blasting and painting equipment for internal painting.

This equipment was purchased specifically for these projects and made the process more efficient, consistent and occupationally safe for the workers.

In most cases, the existing prime coat contained lead components and, as a consequence, the requirement for environmental protection was high with respect worker safety and waste management of lead paint removal. The finishing coats also regularly were coal tar based on this was also a major safety and waste management consideration.

In projects such as these McElligott Partners are well placed to deliver excellent results with their diversity of equipment and skilled manpower, flexibility and experience in deploying to remote areas with the minimum of fuss.
